December Update

GPCS Christmas Events:
GPCS is pleased to offer several ways to prepare your heart for Christmas!
1. Ladies Christmas Tea will be on Friday, December 4 at 7:30pm. This year we are hosting this event at Christchurch Evangelical Covenant. Tickets are $5/ person. This is an evening for ladies to enjoy music, drama, fellowship and desserts! Tickets are available at the school office. For more information, call 767-5123.

2. “An Acoustic Evening” is a free concert to benefit GPCS. An offering will be taken for the school. The featured artists are; Steve Espling, Doug Elder (of The Wrecking), Michael Jones, Frank Marston & Scott Logan. The concert begins at 7:00pm and is held at First Evangelical Free Church of Maine on Saturday, December 12. Call 838-3366 for more information.


3. GPCS Christmas Concert featuring all GPCS Choruses will be on Monday, December 21 at 7:00pm. The concert is at First Baptist Church of South Portland. The GPCS High School Chorus, the GPCS Jr High School Chorus and GPCS Children & Friend’s Chorus will all be performing.



GPCS Basketball Season Begins!

GPCS Varsity and Jr High Basketball have begun. The Varsity Boys will compete in the Maine Christian Sports League, the Varsity Girls will compete in the MPA, and the Jr High Teams will compete in the Boys & Girls Club Leagues.

Mr. David Andreasen is coaching the Varsity Boys Team again this year. Mr. Keith Dawson is coaching the Varsity Girls Team. Bethany Green (class of 2009) is assistant coach. Mr. Andy Foss (class of 2005) and Mr. Mike Jones (member of class of 2006) are coaching our Jr High Boys Team. Mr. Keith Dawson is also coaching the Jr High Girls Team!

First varsity home game is Thursday, December 10. The girls will play Sacopee Valley at 5:00pm and the boys will play OVCS at 6:30pm. Come cheer! The complete game schedule is on the web site at www.gpcs.net, click on “Athletics” at the top, and click on “Varsity Game Schedule”.





GPCS Helping Alumni!

Christmas season is a wonderful time to help others! This year, GPCS students are helping two alumni in ministry. May the Lord use these gifts for His glory!

Ø The GPCS Student Council sold nachos for a couple of weeks for Becky Wiggins (class of 1999). She is raising her support to return to Mexico and serve with Medical Missions to Mexico.
Ø Grades 6-8 are gathering school supplies for orphans in India. They are partnering with Jim Spencer (class of 1985) and the Grace Orphan Fellowship Ministry.

Ø Nate Delcamp (homeschool student) is engaged.
Ø Nick Walker (class of 2008) is deployed to Afghanistan December 8.
Ø Jennifer Keenan Harrell (class of 2001) is expecting child #2.
Ø Betsy Bell Edelen (student with class of 2002) had a baby boy on 10/16, David Ray Edelen
Ø Eric Tranter Dunn (class of 2006) is expecting.
Ø Steve Nevers (class of 1984) & Cynthia King Nevers (class of 1984) are expecting another grandchild from Stephanie Nevers Allen (class of 2006).

Greater Portland Christian School is offering school spirit apparel! We are selling tee-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, cinch sacks, canvas totes, fleece blankets, etc. All with the school logo embroidered on the apparel. Order forms and information can be found on the school web site at www.gpcs.net. Orders are due by Monday, November 16. Yes, orders will be ready before Christmas. October Alumni Update

GPCS Homecoming 2009

GPCS hosted a Homecoming Weekend October 9 & 10. For the third year in a row, the Alumni, friends, former students, family VS GPCS Varsity Boys & Girls Teams soccer game was cancelled due to weather. We hope that next year we can get the game played! Sorry for this disappointment. However, the weather on Saturday was gorgeous for soccer! The GPCS Varsity Girls & Boys Teams played Calvary Christian. The girls took a win and the boys took a loss. The games were followed with a BBQ. Alumni spotted that day were: Chris Spaulding (class of 1989), Ralphy Conant (class of 2001), Shannon Carlson (class of 2005), April St. Cyr (class of 1992), Amanda Sarver (class of 2005), Kara Sarver (class of 2007), Derek Green (class of 2008) Bethany Green (class of 2009), Haien Choi (class of 2009) and AJ Holt (class of 2001). Past school families seen in attendance were David & Beth Andreasen, Rich & Bev Yarborough, Bill & Lois Bamford and Don & Doreen Theriault. It was a good time of fellowship with these alumni, past families, current school families, board members and we even had some grandparents in attendance.

Alumni at Soccer Games:
It is great to see alumni coming to soccer games and cheering our teams on. This season so far we have seen Matthew Bourne (class of 1991 ), Geoff Taylor (class of 2006), Meghan Murray (class of 2006), Matthew Congdon (class of 2008), Tyler Yarborough (class of 2008), Joe Tshamala (class of 2008), April St. Cyr (class of 1992), Matthew Scribner (class of 2009), David Hasbrouck (class of 2005), Derek Green (class of 2008), to name a few.

  • Kristin Bickford (class of 2000) is engaged to be married.
  • Kelsey Yarborough (class of 2006) is engaged to be married.
  • Stephanie Nevers Allen (class of 2006) is expecting a baby.
  • Erica Tranter Dunn (class of 2006) is expecting a baby.
  • Elizabeth Mincks Barry (class of 1986) completed the Chicago Marathon is less than 5 hours.
  • Rebecca Wiggins (class of 1999) will be returning to the states to raise funds to become a missionary with Mexican Medical Ministries.
  • Robyn Woodbury Surque (class of 2007) is married and living in Guatemala.

GPCS Events:

October 24: Re Design Workshop 10:00am-11:30am. The workshop is to take your child's artwork and reproduce them to gifts like a canvas bag, coffee mug, tee- shirt, etc. Registration is due Wednesday, October 21. Suggested donation is $25.

November 13 & 14: This year's One Act Play will be performed at school. Show time is 7:30pm.

November 21: GPCS 3rd Annual Craft Fair 9:00am-3:00pm. Natalie Frye Cleary(class of 2000) is our organizer.

December 21: GPCS Christmas Concert held at First Baptist Church of South Portland. All GPCS Choruses to sing.
